Join us on July 26th to experience part (or all) of a four hour durational music performance, played in conjunction with Adric Giles' Roll Call show Mondo Fiasco.
From Adric Giles: "The repetition and duration of these sounds, improvised and constant, is an experiment in spontaneous creativity - a concept articulated in the writings of the Situationists International. These paintings are conceived through impulse and spontaneity, and depict public spaces that are not intended for consideration (another fascination of the Situationists) revealed to me through the act of dérive. The Situationists believed that spontaneous action had political and societal applications, an antidote for capitalistic ideologies. As a working class individual who balances creative practices with the constant need to work, this collection of work is very much informed by anti-capitalistic meditations and sensibilities.
This combination of paintings, video collage, and noise performance, is an example of one person's capacity for creative action - a capacity that every individual has, but might not regularly access, largely because of classist gatekeeping.
The durational performance, rhythm focused and featuring cassette-tape recordings of my sister and I as young children, goofing around, is not intended to be watched but peripherally considered while within the space. I encourage people to sit with paintings and take-in the audio simultaneously, to participate, to consider, to connect with each other and recognize the cacophonous nature outside and inside the society of the spectacle."
