A Tilt of Light; A Slant of Dust considers how time becomes perceptible through sustained attention. The installation brings together a large-scale drawing of the sun’s surface, marked by solar flares and hand-colored ink; drawings from Dust and Cosmos, which transform camera-less photographs of dust and sweepings gathered from the home into cosmic landscapes; everyday objects including a leaf, a rock, and a watch; and prisms that catch and redirect light through the space.
Together, the works move between intimate and vast scales of time: the settling of dust, a fallen leaf, measured time, geological time, and the ongoing movement of the sun. Rather than attempting to represent or capture time, the exhibition creates conditions for noticing its presence through repetition, transformation, accumulation, movement, and sustained looking.

About the Artist
Joetta Maue is an artist working across photography, drawing, textiles, and installation. Her practice explores lived time and sustained attention through repetition, accumulation, and material transformation. Responding to a culture shaped by acceleration and distraction, Maue considers how sustained looking can alter our perception of the ordinary. Across media, she investigates how images and materials can register time—how meaning emerges through repeated gestures, accumulated actions, and close attention.
Maue’s work has been exhibited at museums, universities, and nonprofit institutions throughout the United States and Europe, including the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art, Emerson Contemporary, the Griffin Museum of Photography, and the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles. Her work has been reviewed in The Boston Globe and published internationally in books and journals devoted to contemporary art, photography, and textile practice.
She has been awarded residencies at artist programs including Millay Arts, Monson Arts, Penland School of Craft, and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, where she also served as Textiles Coordinator. Maue teaches in graduate and undergraduate programs in the Boston area and lives and works in Massachusetts.
